Blue Fusion Releases National Youth Survey On High School Teens’ Spring Break Behavior

March 19, 2004 - Blue Fusion, a new youth marketing consultancy formed out of a partnership between DC consulting firm Westin Rinehart and teen-marketer Buzz Marketing Group, announced results today of a national survey of 440 'buzzSpotters' from all across the U.S. detailing their behavior on Spring Break. The survey division of Blue Fusion is called Blue Pulse and respondents ranged in age from 15-18.

55% of Teens Footing the Bill for Spring Break
"Teenagers are taking more financial responsibility for their own entertainment and vacations," said Morris L. Reid, managing director of Westin Rinehart and managing partner of Blue Fusion. "The results of the survey showed 55% of teens are paying for their own spring break vacations and not relying on their parents money." Of the 55% who will be spending their own money, 41% report they earned the money working at various jobs and 14% will pull from their savings account.

68% of Teens Do Not Plan To Have More Sex
68% of the respondents commented that they do NOT expect to have more sex on Spring Break, although half of teens polled will be bringing condoms with them "just in case."

An Ohio male teen, age 18, responded," I don't see spring break as a chance to get laid, but I just bring the condoms as a safety measure, you never know what might happen."

"Adult America assumes that kids break from the nest and do the wrong thing," said Tina Wells, chief executive officer of Buzz Marketing Group and managing partner of Blue Fusion. "Our one-to-one experience and regular forums with young people tell us that more teens are demonstrating independence and making smart decisions."
