
The Door, New York City’s Premier Youth Agency, Announces Honorees For Its Third Annual “Opening Doors” Awards
April 6, 2005 – The
Door, New York City's premier youth development agency, announced today
the honorees for its highly anticipated 3rd Annual “Opening Doors”
Gala which will take place at Christie's, located at 20 Rockefeller Plaza
on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 6 PM.
Awards will be presented to Iman, beauty industry icon and Founder and
CEO of IMAN Cosmetics, Fragrances & Skincare; L. Londell McMillan,
Entertainment Attorney, Developer and Co-Founder of the Artist Empowerment
Coalition; Tina Wells, CEO of Buzz Marketing Group; and Gap Inc. Each
will be individually recognized for their outstanding contributions and
ongoing efforts to empower and inspire New York City's youth.
Hosted by MTV News Correspondent, SuChin Pak, this year’s Opportunity
Rocks-themed gala will celebrate the dynamic and energizing role of the
music program at The Door, where it is used as an educational, therapeutic
and creative tool. The evening will feature a special musical performance
by Door youth, in addition to award presentations for this year's honorees.
“The Door’s ongoing mission is to empower and inspire the City’s
underserved youth. We encourage young people to reach their potential
by providing a comprehensive network of free and confidential services
in a supportive and respectful environment,” said Michael H. Zisser,
Ph.D., Executive Director of The Door. “Our Annual Gala is not only
the most important fundraiser of the year, but is also an opportunity
to recognize and thank those who support our mission. We look forward

This year’s Honorary Chair, Entertainment Attorney, Developer and Co–Founder
of the Artist Empowerment Coalition, L. Londell McMillan will be presented
with the “Opening Doors For Youth Award”. Throughout his extraordinary
career as a leading advocate for artists' rights, McMillan has demonstratedhis
longstanding commitment to raising awareness of the issues faced by disadvantaged
young people by bringing opportunities to New York City youth through
arts education.
Iman, beauty industry icon and Founder and CEO of IMAN Cosmetics, Fragrances
& Skincare, and Tina Wells, CEO of Buzz Marketing Group, will each
be presented with a “Diversity in Business Award” in recognition
of their innovative and superior leadership in the workplace and for providing
an inspiration for young people of all backgrounds.
Gap Inc. will receive The Door's first Corporate “Diversity in Business
Award” recognizing its longstanding commitment to a diverse workforce
and its extraordinary support of The Door's career development services.
Over the past nine years, Gap Inc.'s generous financial and in-kind support
has provided The Door's youth with invaluable resources and opportunities
to prepare for the workplace.

ABOUT THE DOOR
Founded in 1972, The Door (www.door.org) provides a full range of integrated
services at a single site, free of charge to any adolescent between the
ages 12 and 21. With a special area of expertise is in helping older youth
who have failed in school and the City's younger at–risk youth, The Door’s
