What inspired you to create the TrendHunter.com community?
I’ve always been insatiably curious and obsessed with innovation. As a kid, I was constantly brainstorming new inventions. In fact, I invented a magnetic car at age 10. Unfortunately, by age 12, I learned that the Japanese had created an actual magnetic train. This made me suspicious. However, a couple years later, I stopped assuming that they stole my idea and started looking for my next business opportunity.
In my constant search for new business ideas, I decided that I would like to create a community where people could post cool discoveries, unique inventions and emerging trends. In short, I wanted a place where people could discover the next big thing.
However, I also wanted to make sure that trend hunters could be rewarded for their efforts, which is why I split the Google ad revenue 50/50. I also try to make the site more appealing by showcasing the top trend hunters and making sure their portfolios rock.
What do you like most about your work?
By definition, it’s cool.
What is your favorite tech item at the moment that you can't live without?
I’d love to feature something more innovative and unique, but the reality is that I have a serious blackberry addiction. In addition the obvious, I use it to approve new trends and to browse the latest at www.trendhunter.com/mobile
What's the hardest thing about your job?
I am overwhelmed by ideas and don’t have nearly enough time in my life. Regretfully, I had to give up dodgeball.
Mac or PC?
I just use pen and paper. Actually, I fear that Apple has ruined the MP3 market by selling everyone the same stuff. So if you’re looking for things on the cutting edge of cool, you could end up an Apple hater. Everything Apple is looks great, but there’s a lot of selection in the PC world, and if you look hard enough, you can find something cool.
