Mother Earth needs our help ! Try these simple things below to make your life more eco-friendly.
- Only sign up for catalogs you need! Unwanted catalogs/magazines add up to more than 4 million tons of paper a year! Unsubscribe to those catalogs you just toss out, and only subscribe to the ones you NEED. Better yet – SHOP ONLINE!
- Sign up for e-billing. It saves you time and saves papers!
- Skip the screen saver! They actually suck energy out! Switch to sleep mode. At the end of the day, turn off your computer and UNPLUG it.
- Turn the washing machine to COLD. It will also help the fabrics of your clothes last longer.
- Get some fun, cheap china. Use this instead of Styrofoam & plastic disposable plates & silverware. Go visit your local thriftstore and pick up some and stop throwing out all that useless trash!
- Say no to plastic bags – and paper ones. They have all kinds of trendy totes these days. Pick yourself up one and take it when you go to the supermarket.
- Power strip. When you turn your electronics “off” – it’s actually misleading. Plug all your electronics into a power strip with a circuit breaker and remember to switch to OFF at the end of each day.
- Stop driving, when you can walk, run or bike! If every American used public transportation 10% of the time, the U.S. would need 40% less imported oil.
- Buy local food. Shop at your local farmer’s market. Buying any goods produced locally saves energy by reducing the fossil fuels needed to transport food and other items across the country and around the globe.
- Skip the bottled water! Not only is bottled water expensive, but it adds to a lot of container waste. Filter your water at home, and buy a reuseable water bottle.
