Global Mobiles
Teens today are not only super tech-savvy; they are globally connected. In our portable, wireless world, teens are using anything and everything to stay up-to-date with global events. The fact that any trend spotted by a teen from one part of the world can be instantaneously spread to another bends the world of youth marketing. Companies need to come up with more creative, high-speed methods of marketing to teens.
Insta-Messengers
Teens are consuming content instantaneously and therefore require rapid forms of communication. Whether it’s through AIM, text messages, or Facebook messages, teens demand a faster way to express themselves. In addition to simple communication, teens also want ways to share the content they find interesting with their friends. Songs and video clips are forms of content that teens want to be able to easily download and send to their friends.
Transculturalism
What is transculturalism and how is it relevant to teens today? As defined by Fernando Ortiz, “transculturalism is the merging and converging of cultures.” While this term was coined decades ago, it applies to teens globally. Culture is universal, and shared by teens, even if they live in different continents. Styles and trends are conveyed globally because of the universality of culture. When a trend emerges in one region, teens on the other side of the world catch on easily and put their own spin on the trend.
